About
Mmmm! Where to start….
It would have to be why this business even began, as many of you out there will know, have tried, started and given up, succeeded or just owned the tshirt, this business is competitve and hectic especially when craft items, papers and cards are so readily available on todays markets.
Everyone can and does have a go at handcrafted work, birthday cards and such is the norm, but the ‘Wedding’ has got to be one of the most expensive days we all go through (if you are lucky) and saving as much as you can is most couples agenda. For some reason it always seems to be the invites that get home made. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and if you have the talent go for it. Just remember to give yourselves enough time. Its not as easy as it looks and believe me and many others on any wedding forum you visit will state ..’takes a hell of a lot longer to do than you expect”….but we all start somewhere.
My story is no different from anyone elses, I have always been a craft orientated person even as a child and made cards, presents and anything else I could think of in every spare moment. Right through schools and sixth forms, craft was a passion but where do you go after ‘art’. I wanted to extend knowledge but the only choices are (or were) ‘art’ degrees so this is what I suffered and endured. If you are a crafter you would understand the agony of life drawing! Did it help? Who knows, I came out of that degree a stronger person if nothing else, the abuse was thick and fast…I am and was not an artist in the drawing sense, but I found my art when my sister in law married. I made her wedding cards and that was it…ADDICTED. I made her menus, table plan…anything she did or didn’t want, it didn’t matter to me.
Other friends came along for their wedding stationery and then (word of mouth is a blessing) so did many others. My day came and my invites were not the best and sent out late….I was ,as usual, to busy making everyone elses.
Still to this day I spend every waking hour making invites, designs, accessories for couples and I am always honoured they pick my company and in return I do my darndest to make sure that every invite they receive from us is the most perfect item. I am and unfortunately always will be unable to give my work to others to do as I am critical and try so hard to produce perfection everytime, its tiring and hard work, and I couldn’t be happier.
I finally gave up my day job 2 years ago, with support from my husband and family (and thanks always to my mum for her ever helping hand) I pushed this business to be a delightful full-time job. I have found many friends along the way, one stationer in particular is a good ear when I need a moan and a great friend and collegue. I hope I have helped her in the past as much as she has helped me. Thank you Deb.
If you are trying to get into this business I can only wish you the best of luck, don’t give up even though along the way you will want to, many times, and I hope you have the support I did, don’t be stingy, spend to make but be stringent.
Get a good website, believe me when I say there is alot of rubbish web companies out there, but when you find a good one stick like glue, they are few and far between and if I hadn’t got Ricky on hand I would still have spam, viruses, a truly shocking website and no one to help with computers and the web (I hate them and it) but that is where I get to meet you all so I won’t knock it too hard. I could have a list as long as my arm of web issues, problems, rules, oh..its endless. He is a god send.
Enough babble and I hope you enjoy the blog and my site and even my products if I am lucky enough to work with you on your special day.
